The 7/20 hike will be held at Morgan-Monroe State Forest on the Rock Shelter
Trail (the trail is a loop that contains a part of the longer Low Gap Trail) just south
of Martinsville, Indiana. This is a new venue for the ILADD Hiking Club. The trail is
scenic and rated moderate. The state forest is less crowded than a state park, and
with the new I-69 it should take only a little over an hour to get there. We will
meet at 12:30 p.m. at the parking area marked “Low Gap Trail” for a picnic lunch
(bring your own sack lunch, ILADD will provide cookies and water) and begin
hiking at 1:00 p.m. We will hike for approximately two hours. You can view a map
of the Morgan-Monroe State Forest by going to the Indiana Department of
Natural Resources website.
Hikes are typically last about two hours and are 2-3 miles in length. Please dress
accordingly for the weather and bring a water bottle for the hike. At this time of
year it is encouraged to bring a change of shoes / socks for after the hike since the
trails are often wet and muddy.
REGISTRATION REQUIRED: The hike will be limited to the first 20 registrants. It is very important that you let us know you will be participating, so we can notify you if we need to change our plans due to bad weather or other circumstances. Register by emailing us at teasterday@iladdinc.org of your intent to go on the hike.
If you have not previously completed the registration forms for the ILADD Hiking Club, you must complete and submit those forms ASAP. Click here to fill out the forms.
