Self-Advocacy is learning how to speak up for yourself, making your own decisions about your own life, learning how to get information so that you can understand things that are of interest to you, finding out who will support you in your journey, knowing your rights and responsibilities, and learning to be a problem solver. The ILADD Self-Advocates Group will meet on the first Monday of each month.

Bridges to Independence Gala – Run for the Gold

Independent Living for Adults with Developmental/Intellectual Disabilities (ILADD), will be hosting Bridges to Independence Gala – Run for the Gold as the organization’s largest annual fundraiser.

This year, the event will be hosted at the Palomino Ballroom in Zionsville, Indiana on Saturday, May 4, 2024 and we expect to attract over 250 guests. 

Our event will include dinner, drinks, an auction, and entertainment. We hope you will join us for a fun-filled evening!

Silent/Live Auction Contributions

Our next ILADD Hiking Club hike is scheduled for Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park in Indianapolis. We will be hiking on the Camp Creek Trail, which we enjoyed hiking on last November and in prior years.

The entrance to Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park is on North Post Road (take the 56th Street exit off of I-465 on the east side of Indianapolis, proceed east on 56th Street to Post Road, turn left,and proceed north on Post Road). Turn left onto Shafter Road and you will come to the park’s Gatehouse.

Fees: You will need to pay a park entry fee ($7 per vehicle- if you would like to be reimbursed by ILADD please get a receipt and give it to Tom Easterday).  Then proceed on Shafter Road to Clark Road. Turn right onto Clark Road past the Cherry Tree Picnic Area to the Delaware Lake Picnic Area. Park in the parking lot for the Delaware Lake Picnic Area and we will meet there.

ILADD Hiking Club is for adults with developmental/intellectual disabilities who can walk at least 2-3 miles, up and down hills, on uneven ground, on unpaved trails. All hikers should bring their own water bottle. It is recommended that everyone bring a change of shoes and socks for after the hike because it may get muddy if it rains within a day or two prior to the hike.  Also, make sure to dress appropriately for the weather conditions. The average high temperature for April in Indianapolis is 62 degrees and the average low is 41 degrees. If we need to postpone the hike due to excessive rain or severe weather, we will email or call you two hours or more before the hike is set to commence.

REGISTRATION REQUIRED: The hike will be limited to the first 20 registrants. It is very important that you let us know you will be participating, so we can notify you if we need to change our plans due to bad weather or other circumstances. Register by emailing us at teasterday@iladdinc.org of your intent to go on the hike by April 18, 2024. If you have not previously completed the registration forms for the ILADD Hiking Club, you must complete and submit those forms by April 18 2024. This new program is being offered to introduce different types of dancing and movement that provide physical activity while having fun. We will pair each of these events with a healthy snack and share a recipe to take home. Our first event on 4/20 will be Latin Fest! We will have Rubi Sima as our guest instructor. Come join for a few hours of fun, music, movement and friends followed by a healthy snack.

ILADD Game Night - Lebanon

The ILADD Game Night in Lebanon is being cancelled on April 11. Instead of hosting Game Night we will be doing a community service event and would like for all available self-advocates to come volunteer with us. We will be volunteering at the Kiwanis Pancake Supper at the Boone County Fairgrounds in the Farm Bureau Building (1300 East 100 South, Lebanon) from 4:30-8:30. Our self-advocates will be assisting with serving food and clearing tables throughout the event.
